Life is terrible here in Akumal....NOT

Settling in on that first day is always the hardest.  Finding one's way in a new location, making sure you have all the drinks and snacks, and don't forget the drive from the airport (which, in our case, meant navigating around a sinkhole on the highway).

But by the start of day 2, it's all worth it.
See the view from our room?
Palm trees, the pool, and the beach, all within about 12 seconds walking.

Sargassum Seaweed

For the past few months, the Caribbean side of Mexico has had an unusual high amount of Seaweed (Sargassum) wash up on the beaches. This includes the Akumal area.

It's been such an unusually high quantity  that the Mexican government finally stepped in to help out with the cleanup, spending about $9 million towards the cleanup effort.

You can read more about it, and see some pictures, here at this article:

Intro

So, recently we booked a trip to Akumal (in Mexico) for the end of August - staying for 2 weeks!! whoo hooo!!

I've been diligently fine-tuning our itinerary (besides the flights, of course).
Lots and lots of beach-time, with only a couple of excursions....don't want to be TOO busy.
It's a vacation, after all!!  :)

I like using "TripIt" for itinerary planning....the website is www.tripit.com,
but they have apps for the iPad and also the Android phones.

What is TripIt?  here's a short video about it:

Anyway, if time allows (in between all that 'relaxation' time),
I'll try to keep this blog updated with our mexican adventures :)

Oh, I can hear you thinking: "Where is Akumal?  I've never heard of it!"

It's about 1 hour south of Cancun
(we'll be flying into Cancun, then renting a car to drive south for about an hour, and voila, beach-time!)
